Alex Rosado, OFS

Felix Rosado, OFS, received the 2026 Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) Award from the Secular Franciscan Order in the United States (OFS-USA) for his work in restorative justice. JPIC Commission chair Joseph Makley, OFS, presented the award at the annual chapter meeting on Oct. 14.

The award honors individuals who embody Franciscan values through their actions, leadership, and initiatives, demonstrating a deep commitment to Gospel living, peace, and penance in daily life. Felix’s work focuses on repairing the harm crime causes to people and relationships, emphasizing accountability and healing beyond punishment alone.

In 1996, Felix was sentenced to life in prison without parole after pleading guilty to first-degree murder. While incarcerated, he rediscovered his Catholic faith and began studying restorative justice, seeking ways to acknowledge the harm he had caused and begin making amends.  He also became a Secular Franciscan.

After the governor granted him clemency in 2022, Felix began working with a restorative justice program in Philadelphia and teaching classes on the subject at local universities. Through this work, he brings his experience of faith, accountability, and continuing conversion to efforts that address the lasting effects of crime.
