The merchant finds the pearl by constant effort of searching for fine pearls. On the other hand, the landowner finds the treasure in a field by chance. He is not looking for it. These two experiences, linked together, tell us that sometimes we find the Kingdom of God by looking for it. Other times, we simply stumble upon it.
